  • The exact date of the 2016 Municipal Elections will only be known when the election is officially proclaimed by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in 2016.
  • In terms of the Constitution the election must be held between 18 May and 16 August 2016.

​​​We Matter – 2014 was the first time that Born Frees were able to vote in a National Election But of the 1.9 million potential youth voters (ages 18-19) only one in three is registered to vote.  

#MySAVote looks to engage all South Africans to register and vote in the 2016 municipal election.  Together, we can ensure that on Election Day, we collectively shape our country’s history.

  • By law, you must apply in person (no online or email registrations are permitted) and you must bring your valid:
  • Green, bar-coded ID book, or;
    smartcard ID, or;
    temporary identity certificate (TIC).
  • No other forms of identification are accepted (not even passports or driving licences).
  • Check your voter registration status to find out which voting station you're registered to vote at.
  • If you are a registered voter, you can find your voting station information by checking your voter registration status.
  • If you are not registered, and want to register at your correct voting station during a special registration weekend (5-6th March), use the IEC Voting Station Finder or call centre on 0800 11 8000 or dial *120*432#.
